Best Pharmacology books for 3rd year MBBS...
many third year students mailed me and asked for best Pharmacology books for 3rd ear of MBBS! my first answer is none of the book is perfect! bc if u are reading a review book, u might not build proper concepts and if you are talking textbook as an option you might emphasize on unnecessary things and important stuff to memorize will lag behind :P
well the right answer is that you have to combine two books! two options:
- Either combine lippincott's illustrated Pharmacology with Farrukh Jabbar review of Pharmacology. These two books are enough for you to pass and even get distinction both in theory and viva! (So don't wander here and there for other books and go for it).
- Just in case you wana build more concepts and want another books than go for Katzung review, its a v. nice book and even miraculous in some ways (i personally combined these three books and believe me that results were rewarding:D)
I will not encourage you to read BRS and Kaplan series for pharmacology (not at all!), i wasted much time in these two books but evantually i have to follow the earlier 3 book pattern!
in next post i will tell you how to study pharmacology and get maximum out of it !
i wish u all the best & lemme know if there are any queries :-)

Howdy.. hope your last two years were uneventful! but there is still a long way to go:P
you are entering into most important part of your MBBS! This is your first clinical year, this is the year in which you have to work V.V.Hard as after 1st year this is the most difficult year of your MBBS, don't panic, don't worry b/c its da most interesting year as well!
In subsequent posts i will tell u how to approach certain subjects but here are some general rule which you have to follow throughout your third year and you can't miss these rulz by any costs:
- This is the year of experimenting, there are thousands of books in market, both review books and helping aids, go to market and find best books for you, don't blindly follow what someone tells you (even me!) Every person has books suited for his her personality So take the pain and find the right books for you!! (Don't worry i'll guide to you when i'll discuss particular subject.)
- you have to study throughout the year, do some extra-curricular but must not wander too much from studies

Best Biochemistry books for MBBS 1st and 2nd year..
1st and 2nd year biochemistry is v.simple and interesting but yet it should'nt be neglected! The concepts you made in Biochem helps you throughout MBBS and afterwards..
For first year biochem:
- Mushtaq biochemistry with Faiq Review For Pakistani Students
- Chatterjee Biochemistry for those who need lil better orientation, with this book you can easily drop Mushtaq.
- You can also consult Lipincott's Biochemistry Review for some concepts and Vitamins and Enzyme Chapters.
For 2nd year MBBS:
- Lipincott's Review and Faiq Review ( But Better option is BRS biochemistry, i loved this book for metabolisms, v. conceptual and yet interactive)
Never Hesitate to take assistance from your teacher and from bigger text books for the sake of building nice concepts.
I wish u all the best & lemme know if there are any queries :-)

Best Physiology books for MBBS 1st and 2nd year..
Now i am telling you about best books on physiology, Physiology has been my most favorite subject and still i consult my physiology book to clear concepts.
There are two approaches, average student approach and classic approach :
Average student: read Guyton and Hall's physiology and keep Baby guyton and Firdaus with you for quick revision. thats it!! most of the students follow this and many of them even take good marks.
Classic approach: its my personal opinion and i followed this pattern, first complete the topic you want to do from BRS Physiology review, this will give you an idea and grasp on primary concepts of that topic, than do it from baby Guyton, (no need for the big text book, blieve me!!) than read Ganong Physiology review as much you can, for review i recommend, Firdaus and baby Guyton!! This approach is quite time taking but much more fruitful!
N.B: don't forget that 95% of students follow average pattern and remain successful!
Try to grasp concepts despite of mere memorization, remember :
1) Physiology is the basis of Pathology and Pharmacology in 3rd and 4th year and ultimately if your pathology is good your medicine will eventually be great.
2) Never take Physiology difficult and boring, just give it some time and i assure you its interesting.
3) Never Hesitate to take assistance from your teacher and from bigger text books for the sake of building nice concepts.
I wish u all the best & lemme know if there are any queries :-)

Best Anatomy Books for 1st year and 2nd year MBBS
1st and 2nd year are most difficult in Medical student's life!! They don't know what and when to approach and follow!!
i'll give u brief idea of books which one has to consider.
For Anatomy:
Gross Anatomy 1st year keep B.D Chaurasia plus netter's atlas and for references seek KLM Anatomy.
Gross Anatomy 2nd year Snell's Anatomy and again for references seek KLM!
N.B: for extraordinary bright students (like me :-P) KLM alone would be enough, but don't put too much pressure on urself if you can't do it, most of the good students, i know, followed above mentioned approach.
For Embryo, don't be confused, buy and read only one book i.e Langman's Embryology, its easy, memorizes and clinically co-related!
For Histology go for Wheater's Atlas of Histology, try to make concepts not absolute memorization.
Essence is your review book ;-)
Now you need to consider few points i.e
1) making notes is not helpful, believe me its waste of time, however, you can make additions in your review book.
2) take interest in what you read, don't take it as a burdon or hard job. Learning is fun man!!
3) Anatomy is 70% concepts and 30% memorization, so never panic!
4) revision, revision and revision is da only key to success. make flash cards if you have to but always revise as much as u can.
5) illustrations are memorized easily and hardly forgotten so give considerable time to your Atlas..
6) remember Anatomy is the basis for surgery in final year.. so take it seriously
lemme know if tere are any queries:-)
